Who Needs to Register for NY HUT?
Any motor carrier operating qualifying vehicles on New York highways and roadways must register for NY HUT and obtain a Certificate of Registration and decals for each vehicle.
If your vehicle has 3 or more axles and you don't have IRP, you likely need HUT credentials when operating in New York regularly.
Requirements
Motor Carriers Subject to NY HUT
A vehicle is subject to New York Highway Use Tax when it is a motor vehicle used on New York State public highways and roadways in connection with a business, and has a gross weight of more than 18,000 pounds alone or in combination with any trailer.
